This is Amber.
Today is a VERY special day for her.
Check that, every day is a special day for her because when she was 9-years old, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma.
Given the 0-15% survival rate, it is a straight up miracle and testament to her doctors and her determination that she is still alive. In fact, when she was diagnosed, her doctors “wished it had been Leukemia which has a much higher survival rate.”
How’s THAT for sobering news at the age of 9?!
So why is today more special to her than any other day?
Because TODAY is Amber’s 21st BIRTHDAY!!!
Even though Amber is 12-years removed from her bout with Rhabdo, her body and life will NEVER be the same.
“Once exposed to the chemo and radiation treatments, I experienced dramatic weight loss, hair loss, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and loss of muscle strength. While I have recovered my strength there are still long-term effects of my cancer experience from things as simple as my “chemo toe” which is slightly crooked from when my muscles were weakened by the chemotherapy to very serious effects such as hormone/reproductive issues that I am on hormone therapy for and may need to consider alternative methods when I am ready to start a family.”
Please give Amber a BIG Happy Birthday comment. She’s turning 21 on the 21st…Amber, THIS is your big year.
Today’s workout was in the Baby Bull Boxing Gym. I knew I was going to feature Amber on her birthday, and it’s poetic that today was a “fighting” workout because she had to fight HARD to beat cancer.
The workout (1 round = 3 minutes. 30 seconds rest between):
Jump Rope for 2 rounds
Shadow box 1 round
Heavy Bag for 4 rounds
Medium Bag for 3 rounds
Light bag for 2 rounds
Kettle bell squats (4 sets)
If you’re inclined, tip back your favorite adult beverage for Amber’s 21st birthday today and celebrate with her.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMBER!!!
Who will you meet tomorrow?
