Today, I ran for 2 kids.
Seventeen-year-old Kaleigh is one of the funniest, sassiest and sweetest girls I’ve ever met.
She’s beaten cancer TWICE. Once at the age of 3, which she admittedly doesn’t recall much about that battle. That battle lasted 2 years.
Three years later, she relapsed at age 8, which she fully remembers. During this battle, she took a year off of school and “I remember missing everyone so much”.
How often do kids wish they didn’t have to go to school? For kids with cancer, school is a place they LONG to be.
Kaleigh hasn’t “had many significant health issues, but there are little signs of what I went through all over my body.”
The 2nd time she was diagnosed, January 16, 2008, she needed a bone marrow transplant, which she received on April 25.
On May 21 2008 she was declared “no ALL (leukemia) present in bone marrow.”
Who was her bone marrow donor?
So, today was a scheduled 3 hour run with the middle hour the fastest of the 3. It was a perfect run to honor Kaleigh and Kendall, because the 1st two hours were for each of Kaleigh‘s battles and the 3rd hour was for her life being saved by her sister, Kendall. In hour 1 I ran 6.54 miles. In hour 2 I ran 7.23 miles and in hour 3 I ran 6.79 miles.
When I got back home, Trish Snider Kline had my evamor Natural Artesian Water, a cold glass of milk and a beer waiting for me in the backyard. As Kaleigh and Kendall showed, Trish knows that this training is much like beating cancer in the respect that it is a TEAM effort.
Today was an AMAZING run for two INCREDIBLE girls. Thank you for being my motivation and inspiration to get out of the door and push myself today, girls.
Who will you meet tomorrow?
