…150 Days Until Race Day
Okay, ladies, eat your heart out. This little stud is Jrue.
Jrue is 5-years-old and on April 26th he was diagnosed with Stage 3 Burkitts lymphoma.
That diagnosis took him and his family away from being at home.
It took Jrue away from going to school and it caused his mommy to miss alot of work.
Jrue is not an only child either. He has 2 younger sisters and they love their brother so much.
Often forgotten in the whole childhood cancer battle are the siblings, the healthy children who, while they aren’t receiving the chemo and treatment, are just as much impacted by a diagnosis as the actual patient.
On September 23, Jrue and his family received the news they had been waiting for. His CT scans came back negative indicating there are no more tumors in his stomach.
Jrue finished chemo in October.
Today’s run was for Jrue and his sisters and his mommy. I had had a full day between work, a staff meeting and then a TV appearance promoting Snowdrop Foundation and the Reliant Giving program on Houston Life. Usually my day winds down around 3pm, but today, I still had my hour run to do. Jrue is WHO and WHAT got me out the door for those 6.17 miles.
Thanks, Big Man, and you keep smiling that handsome smile, buddy.
Who will you meet tomorrow?
