…82 Days Until Race Day
Rarely do stories get as good as this.
This is Cristian.
Cristian is 15-years-old and has been CANCER FREE since March 2, 2016!
He was diagnosed with acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL) on November 12, 2012 and went through nearly 4 years of chemotherapy.
What started out as an ear infection turned out to be an enlarged lymphnode. Thankfully the ENT doctor ordered a biopsy at Texas Children’s Hospital.
The biopsy results turned out 1st to be Lymphoma. That same night of the results (11.12.12) his family took Cristian to the ER
at Texas Children’s Hospital because his leg pains were beginning to become intolerable.
They assumed that it was just “growing pains”, but the “growing pains” turned out to be cancer. Thus began a 2 weeks stay in Texas Children’s Hospital.
In those 2 weeks, Cristian went from a diagnosis of lymphoma to lymphoblastic lymphoma to NON Hodgkins Stage 4. While in the office with the doctors discussing his diagnosis, the doctor got a page.
It turned out that Cristian’s bone marrow actually had more than 25% cancer cells. Therefore, his final diagnoses was Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
This coming March 2 will be a very special day for Cristian and his family as he will be 1 year cancer free. However, as special of a day as that will be, today is a pretty darn special day too. Not because I ran for Cristian. Hardly.
Because of his battle with cancer, and because he is just an incredible kid, Cristian and his father, Daniel are at Super Bowl 51 at NRG Stadium. They were given a pair of tickets by Texas Children’s Cancer Center and Hyundai Hope On Wheels. The below video is Snowdrop Foundation Board of Director and Texas Children’s Cancer Center Director of Long-Term Survivor Program, Dr. Zoann Dreyer, surprising Cristian.
He thought he was just going to see Dr. Dreyer to get clearance to try out for football later this year. This video is awesome and truly speaks to Cristian’s humility and the incredible compassion Dr. Dreyer has for her patients.
Who will you meet tomorrow?
