Why We Snowdrop?
The driving force behind everything we do is the children. We’ve seen the impact a childhood cancer diagnosis has on the entire family and we’re deeply committed to ensuring children affected by a cancer diagnosis have the opportunity to pursue their college dreams with scholarships, regardless of financial challenges. We are painstakingly aware that childhood cancer research continues to be under-funded so we continue our mission to help fund Research and Awareness. Our actions bring our WHY to life.
55 Hours is symbolic. On February, 2006, the young lady (15-year-old, Chelsey Campbell) who inspired and founded Snowdrop Foundation, had what is still a record setting surgery at Texas Children’s Cancer Center. Her surgery lasted 27 continuous hours. Through those 27 hours, there were 4 anesthesiologists and 4 shift changes of nurses. However, 1 primary surgeon and 1 assistant surgeon performed the operation in its entirety, without taking any breaks. This race recognizes the time it took the 2 surgeons who operated on 1 patient in order to save her life.
2 (surgeons) x 27 (hours) + 1 more hour for Chelsey = 55 HOURS

Course Information
- The course is a .69045-mile loop composed of crushed gravel and concrete sidewalks.
- To reach 100 miles, runners must complete 145 loops.
- Only full laps completed within the 55 hour time limit will be counted toward final totals.
- Because the course is certified and officially sanctioned by the USATF, any records set during the event will be verified and submitted to USATF. USATF Course Certification Number: TX17010JH
- If a runner chooses to leave the course at any time during the race, they must reenter at the same location.
- At regular time intervals throughout the event, we will be alternating between clockwise and counterclockwise completion of the loop.
- If a change of direction takes place while a runner is off the course, they must complete their previous loop in their original direction.
- Amenities near the start/finish line include:
- Standard aid station tents with food and beverages. (see below)
- Kitchen tent serving various hot foods throughout the event.
- Runner dining tent.
- Massage and foot triage tent.
- Port-a-potties and port-a-sinks.
- Candle vigil tent.
- Drop bag storage and an electronics charging station will be located in the covered gazebo located halfway between the runner parking lot and the start/finish line.
- Security will be on site from December 29th – January 1st.
Parking
Buffalo Run Park is a Missouri City community park so parking is limited and with upwards of 300 runners, spaces will fill quickly. Carpooling is strongly encouraged.
We do not allow travel trailers, towable RVs, or RVs with slide-outs/pop-outs. Camping in the parking area is only permitted if the vehicle is self contained, can move under its own power, and fits in a standard 20×8 parking space. Any other vehicles or towable RVs must find parking outside the race venue.
Although security will be on site for the duration of the event; the race organizers, associated contractors and sponsors, Snowdrop Foundation, and Missouri City are not responsible for any loss or damage to vehicles or personal belongings left in the parked areas. Please secure your valuables and park at your own risk.
If you are seeking for accommodations for large campers and trailers here is a list of nearby campgrounds that might be able to better accommodate such a vehicle.
Race Rules
- Bibs must be worn at all times while on the course.
- Pacers are not permitted on the course at any time during the race.
- Headlamps are highly recommended though not required. There are several sections of the course that can be very dark during the night and footing may be compromised.
- This is a cupless event. Collapsible cups will be available at packet pick-up for all participants.
- Any runners or crew reported to have damaged private or public property, or littered on the course will be disqualified and disallowed from future participation in the event.
- Nudity is strictly prohibited.
- When participants are about to begin their final lap, they will be asked to “ring the bell” and carry a lighted baton with them during its completion. This will allow our team to better identify race finishers and celebrate their accomplishment as they approach the finish line.
- Items prohibited from use during the race include but are not limited to: walking/trekking/hiking poles, rollerblades, bicycles, dogs or animals, joggers/strollers, scooters, skateboards, tires being pulled, any devices that may endanger others or provide runners an unfair advantage over other participants. The use of a single trekking pole used for support is however granted for participants over the age of 65 after 12 hours of the race have elapsed.
- Deferred Entry Policy: You must notify us no later than 60 days OUTSIDE of the race start date Dec 30. You will have the opportunity for early registration for the following year’s race. SOLO will receive $100 off the NEXT years registration fee. Relay will receive $50. The Deferred entry must be used the following year.
Timing/Video
- MCM is the official timer for the race. Timing chips will be provided to all runners prior to the start of the race and must always be worn while on the course for a lap to count. No laps completed without a chip will be counted.
- Participants must return timing chips to the timing tent upon completion of their final lap.
- Once a runner has returned their chip, their race is over. No chips will be redistributed once returned to the timing officials.
- Runners are financially responsible for any chips not returned to timing officials.
- Two large display clocks located at the start/finish line will display the actual time that has passed during the race.
- A large monitor located on either side of the start/finish line will display a participant’s real-time race information after crossing the timing mats. This information will also be available for tracking purposes at (Link to be provided closer to race day)
- The only official and recognized distance and time counter is the timing official’s system as it records your progress with your chip.
- Race Directors, in conjunction with the timing officials, will have the final say in any matters of time or distance in dispute.

Camping
- Camping is permitted and encouraged.
- Tents must be set far enough off the course that they do not impede a participant’s path of travel. A minimum of one foot from the edge of the course is recommended.
- No open fires or grills with open flames/coals are permitted.
- Please be respectful of the amount of space your campsite occupies and the types of activities taking place in and around your tents. We have a lot of participants, limited space, and runners with different sleep schedules.
- There are no official “quiet hours” for the event, but we do request courteous volumes during the nighttime hours when the majority of participants will be resting.
- Although discouraged, the use of gas-powered generators permitted. Generators must be placed far enough from the course so as not to negatively affect race participants. Should a complaint be filed with the Race Directors, participants may be asked to limit or discontinue their use.
- A limited number of tents are available for rent through the race website.
New For 2024: We are making a small change to help keep the park clean and tidy. The trashcans around the event are intended for small items and are regularly emptied by our amazing volunteers. We kindly ask that you refrain from disposing of large items in or near the cans while breaking down your campsite. We understand that you’re tired—believe us, we are too! To keep things running smoothly, we are implementing a zero-tolerance policy for teams or runners leaving large items in or around the trashcans. We have a large, nearly bottomless dumpster located by the porta-potties, perfect for any larger items you need to discard. Please use it for things like waterlogged tarps, old camping chairs, or other bulky items. If we can identify which team or runner is responsible for improperly disposing of large items, they will unfortunately not be invited back. Thank you for helping us keep the park clean and safe for everyone!
Food Offerings
- A fully stocked aid station will be providing standard ultramarathon fueling options that include but are not limited to sandwiches, chips, cookies, candy, nutrition bars, pickles, and fruit.
- Tailwind, water, and various carbonated beverages will be available.
- A variety of hot meal options for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners will be provided by local vendors and our own Snowdrop griddle masters in addition to late night snacking and ramen options.
- We ask that during busier mealtimes, solo runners and relay members that are actively participating in the event be permitted to “skip the line”.
- Sparkling beverages will be available for those choosing to ring in the new year with us.
We try our best to accommodate everyone’s particular dietary needs but please keep in mind our meals are primarily donated by our sponsored restaurants and while incredibly tasty might not meet everyone’s needs. We will post a general meal schedule as the race draws near.

Relay Teams
- Relay teams are allowed a maximum of 10 runners but must have a minimum of 5.
- Each team member will receive a bib at packet pick-up.
- One timing chip per team will be given to either the team captain or the first runner the morning of the race.
- The team member wearing the timing chip is the only team member permitted on the course.
- Immediate team disqualifications will result if more than one relay team member is on the course at the same time.
- When a team member is completing their leg of the race, they must remember to transfer the team chip to the next team member. Laps completed without the chip will not be counted.
- There is no designated transfer area. Where the exchange takes place is up to each team.

Belt Buckles
- For individual race participants, custom-made belt buckles and car stickers will be awarded for completion of at least the following distances:
- 145 laps – 100 miles – 100-mile belt buckle.
- 218 laps – 150 miles – 150-mile belt buckle.
- 290 laps – 200 miles – 200-mile belt buckle.
